Behind a great game by Michael Verboom, who had two goals, the Chatham Maroons defeated the Leamington Flyers, 4-1. Verboom's tallies came on the power play at 3:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham and 8:47 into the second to make the score 2-1 Chatham.Chatham's Darien Ekblad was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Ekblad certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.86 entering the contest. The the Maroons penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Chatham had been spending in the box. The Maroons stifled Leamington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Chatham forced the Flyers goalie Matt Mancina to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. Chatham also got a goal from Ian Faubert as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Steven Szekesy, Alexander Morgan, and Brennan Feasey, who each chipped in one and Morris Branden and Blake Blondeel, who contributed two a piece. Leamington forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Leamington's offense operated below it season average. The Flyers put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. Leamington was led by Myles Doan, who scored the team's only goal. Doan scored 1:15 into the second period to make the score 1-1. David Dalby picked up the assist. The Maroons registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Michael Levesque and Feasey were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Matt Mancina made 44 saves for the Flyers on 48 shots. Leamington registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. For the Flyers, Cole Chevalier and Jared Dennis were ejected from the contest.
