Taylor's goals lift Cambridge to 9-5 victory over GuelphGalt Arena Gardens Sat, Jan 26, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cambridge Winter Hawks relied on the scoring touch of Chris Taylor, who netted four goals, to beat the Guelph Hurricanes, 9-5. Taylor notched his first tally 8:22 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:32 into the first, at 1:39 into the second, and at 2:28 into the third.Cambridge made Hurricanes' goaltenders to work all game long, totaling 48 shots and forcing 39 saves. Jason DaSilva made 28 stops and Quinton Henry made 11. The Winter Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Cambridge's goal total was higher than its season average. The Winter Hawks have scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Cambridge additionally got points from Mitch Klie, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Cameron Pentsa, who also registered one goal and three assists, and Trevor Hache, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Cambridge also got a goal from Cody Gratton as well. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Christian Barnard, who had two, Todd Bannermon, who had five, and Mitch Facey, Tyler Snyder, and Maxime Lamontagne, who each chipped in one. Guelph outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Hurricanes average 2.6 goals per contest. Guelph could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The Hurricanes were helped by Matt Lippa, who racked up two goals. Lippa scored the first of his two goals at 9:00 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Ian Chan picked up the assist. Lippa's next tally made the score 5-3 Cambridge with 17:42 left in the second period. Chad Herron provided the assist. Guelph also got points from Michael Courvoisier, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Brock Malatches also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Nico Giannantonio, Jordan Hatzinger, and Bradley Yowart, who contributed one a piece. Jordan Lee made nine saves before being replaced by Lucas Machalski, who took the win and made 16 saves. Cambridge incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
