Huge game by Berkel boosts Niagara Falls over St. Catharines, 6-2Jack Gatecliff Rink Fri, Jan 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Drew Berkel was all over the ice for the Niagara Falls Canucks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Niagara Falls' 6-2 win over the St. Catharines Falcons. Berkel's tallies came short handed at 18:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls and 14:14 into the second to make the score 3-1 Niagara Falls.St. Catharines' power play was ineffective against the Canucks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Niagara Falls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Falcons to score on any of their nine power plays. Others who scored for Niagara Falls included Cam Stewart, who had two and Johnny Curran and Cole Vinnai, who scored one goal each. St. Catharines' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Falcons are averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. St. Catharines was helped by Julian Luciani, who had one goal. Luciani scored 11:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. Ben Walsh provided the assist. Spencer DeWolfe also scored for St. Catharines. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Aaron Taylor, Jesse Miller, and Luke Karaim, who each chipped in one. Niagara Falls' Hunter Johnson stopped 43 shots out of the 45 that he faced. The Canucks incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Stormer Santana rejected 18 shots on goal for the Falcons. St. Catharines ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Falcons, Brad Col was ejected from the game.
