Guelph squeaks by Elmira, 5-3Sleeman Centre Thu, Jan 24, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Guelph Hurricanes escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Elmira Sugar Kings. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Matt Lippa's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Lippa was all over the ice for Guelph, as he tallied two goals in the win. The Hurricanes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Elmira power plays. Guelph found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Hurricanes have scored at the pace of 2.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Guelph additionally got points from Matt Nightingale, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Guelph also got a goal from Steven Domenichini as well. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Zach McFadden, Craig Martini, Chad Herron, Ian Chan, and Sebastian Stangherlin, who each chipped in one and Brock Malatches and Dustin Baker, who contributed two a piece. Elmira forced Guelph goalie Jason DaSilva to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. Jason DaSilva made 40 saves for the Hurricanes on 43 shots. Guelph incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Hayden Neuman rejected 24 shots on goal for the Sugar Kings. Elmira ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Sugar Kings, Steven Jakiela was ejected from the game.
