Sarnia holds on for 3-2 win against Lambton Shores

The Lambton Shores Predators tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Sarnia Legionnaires held on for a 3-2 victory.

A goal by Derek D`Andrea put Sarnia up 3-1 in the second period, but Lambton Shores pulled to within one on Kyle Brothers's tally 29 seconds into the third period.

D`Andrea had a great game for the Legionnaires, netting two goals.

Sarnia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Legionnaires could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 25 minutes in penalties during the game.

Sarnia also got points from Brent Sauve, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Jason Teschke, who had three and Matt Cimetta and Steve Farlow, who each chipped in one.

The Predators forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Lambton Shores had been spending in the box. The Predators stifled Sarnia's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Lambton Shores forced the Legionnaires goalie Sean Parker to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Predators were helped by Keegan Hnatiw, who tallied one goal. Hnatiw scored 17:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. Nick Sproveiro picked up the assist. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Dillon Liberty and Adam Arseneault, who contributed one a piece.

Parker recorded 29 saves for Sarnia. The Legionnaires registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For Sarnia, D`Andrea was ejected from the game. Brandon Campbell made 25 saves for Lambton Shores on 28 shots. The Predators ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bryan Boersma was ejected from the game.
