Thorold wins tough contest against Buffalo, 4-2Buffalo State College Arena Tue, Jan 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Thorold Blackhawks gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Buffalo Jr. Blades. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Owen Sobchak at 6:43 of the second period. Sobchak was all over the ice for Thorold, as he had two goals in the win. The Blackhawks stifled Buffalo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Thorold's offense rang up 52 shots on the Jr. Blades' net. Thorold additionally got points from Tanner Pagendam, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Thorold also got a goal from Myles Falasca as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Chris Goulet, who had two and Matthew Hoszko and Mackenzie Mac Avoy, who each chipped in one. Buffalo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Blackhawks to score on any of their four power plays. The Jr. Blades kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Vinny Merante made 29 saves on 31 shots. Buffalo was helped by Austin Crossley APJ, who grabbed one goal. Crossley APJ scored 2:19 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. Dan DeFranco assisted on the tally. Tom Hanna also scored for Buffalo. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Tyler Kessler, who had one and Josh Gordon, who had two. The Blackhawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Ian Shorthouse rejected 48 shots on goal for the Jr. Blades. Buffalo incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
