Kitchener vanquishes Caledonia in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kitchener Dutchmen defeated the Caledonia Corvairs in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Caledonia's shootout goal was scored by Adam Brady. In addition to the clincher, Kitchener got a shootout goal from Keli Grant.

The Dutchmen's penalty kill excelled, as Kitchener gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

In the losing effort, the Corvairs were led by Tyler Norrie, who finished with two goals. Norrie scored the first of his two goals at 18 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Norrie's next tally made the score 2-2 with 7:30 left in the third period. Caledonia had gotten the advantage when the Dutchmen's John Divo was sent off for high sticking. Brandon Montour provided the assist.

Kitchener was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of 10 man advantages.

The Dutchmen were helped by Grant, who grabbed one goal. Grant scored 1:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. Ryo Kobayashi picked up the assist. Kitchener additionally got points from Kobayashi, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Philip Moser, who had one and Tyler Hoffman, who had two.

The Corvairs did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Caledonia averages 4.1 goals per game. The Corvairs forced Kitchener goalie Marc Williams to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. Caledonia was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 30 penalty minutes.

Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Ryan Blunt, who had one.

The Dutchmen's Williams stopped 42 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Kitchener ended with 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Dutchmen ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clayton Greer was ejected from the game. Justis Husak rejected 26 shots on goal for the Corvairs. For Caledonia, Simon Blythe was ejected from the game.
