Stratford squeaks by Listowel, 5-4Listowel Arena Sun, Jan 20, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Stratford Cullitons and the Listowel Cyclones was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Stratford emerged with a 5-4 win. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jake Ryan at 11:03 of the third period. Ryan was all over the ice for the Cullitons, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Ryan scored the first of his two goals at 4:04 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Tyler Tolton assisted on the tally. Ryan's next tally made the score 5-4 Stratford with 8:57 left in the third period. A slashing penalty on Shawn Moore had put Stratford on the power play. Ryker Killins picked up the assist. Listowel was unable to stop the Cullitons from sending pucks towards the net, and Stratford eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. The Cullitons got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Stratford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game. Stratford also got points from Liam Maaskant, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Killins, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Stratford also got a goal from Trevor MacDonald as well. More assists for Stratford came via Shane O Brien, Jake Pleon, and Andrew Barton, who each chipped in one. The Cyclones struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays. Listowel was helped by Jacob Robitaille, who registered two goals. Robitaille scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:09 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Cyclones had taken the advantage when the Cullitons' Ryan Watson got sent off for cross checking. Jesse Parker assisted on the tally. Robitaille's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 12:11 left in the third period. Listowel had gained a power play chance when MacDonald was whistled for roughing. Scott Pawson picked up the assist. Listowel additionally got points from Sam Feagan, who also had one goal and one assist. Patrick Bell also scored for Listowel. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Caleb Cameron, who had two and Sam Harris and Mac Nichol, who contributed one a piece. Michael Pesendorfer rejected 21 shots on goal for Stratford. Drew Reinhardt recorded 40 saves for the Cyclones. Listowel registered three goals on 15 power play opportunities. The Cyclones ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bell was ejected from the game.
