Caledonia holds on for 4-3 win against ElmiraHaldimand Center Fri, Jan 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Caledonia Corvairs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Elmira Sugar Kings on the way to a 4-3 win. Caledonia took a 4-0 lead during the second period, only to have Elmira storm back on a Brandon Stewart goal 14:17 into the third period to pull to one goal down. Tyler Norrie was all over the ice for the Corvairs, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Norrie scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Caledonia earned a power play opportunity when Steven Jakiela was put in the box for roughing after whistle. Connor Murphy assisted on the tally. Norrie's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Caledonia with 3:03 left in the first period. The Corvairs had taken the advantage when the Sugar Kings' Jakiela got sent off for slashing. Spencer Gourlay provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:36 into the third period. Five fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Caledonia's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Corvairs finished with 26 penalty minutes. Caledonia also got points from Ryan Blunt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Gourlay, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Jeff Swift and Brendan Bomberry, who contributed one a piece. Elmira forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Sugar Kings surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. Rob Kohli also scored for Elmira. More assists for Elmira came via Craig Johnson, Adam Brubacher, Cass Frey, Matt Sheick, and Cash Seraphim, who each chipped in one. Marcus DelConte rejected 23 shots on goal for Caledonia. The Corvairs registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Team's Fabrizio Ricci and Bomberry were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Hayden Neuman recorded 26 saves for Elmira. The Sugar Kings registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Elmira, Brubacher was ejected from the game.
