Sarnia survives penalties, beats St. Marys, 2-1

The St. Marys Lincolns failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Sarnia Legionnaires shook off a number of penalties to win, 2-1.

Sarnia was sparked by Jason Teschke, who registered one goal. Teschke scored on the power play 8:47 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. A boarding penalty on Marcus Gverzdys had put the Legionnaires on the power play. Josh Kestner provided the assist.

Sarnia's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six St. Marys power plays. The Legionnaires kept St. Marys' goalie busy throughout the game, and Craig Wood made 29 saves on 31 shots. Sarnia could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Sarnia also got a goal from Thomas Moxley as well. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Nathan Mater, who had one.

The Lincolns could not produce up to they normal offensive output. St. Marys averages 3.1 goals per game.

The Lincolns were led by Calvin Penney, who scored the team's only goal. Penney scored 16:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Marys. David Sproat assisted on the tally.

Andrew Ganter rejected 14 shots on goal for the Legionnaires. Sarnia registered one goal on five power play opportunities. St. Marys incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
