Stratford's Sauder deadly on offense in 4-1 win against Elmira

Behind a great game by Trevor Sauder, who had two goals, the Stratford Cullitons defeated the Elmira Sugar Kings, 4-1.

Sauder scored at 17:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stratford and again while short handed 19:36 into the second to make the score 3-1 Stratford.

Elmira was stymied by Stratford's netminder Nicholas Caldwell, who stopped 40 shots during the victory. Caldwell managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.7 prior to the game.

The Cullitons kept the Sugar Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mackenzie Blackwood made 55 saves on 59 shots. Stratford was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Shane O`Brien also scored for Stratford. In addition, Stratford received assists from Liam Maaskant, who had two and Ryan Watson, Jake Pleon, Mitch Brooks, Ryker Killins, and Jeff McArdle, who contributed one each.

Elmira was held below its usual level of production. The Sugar Kings put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Elmira forced the Cullitons goalie Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

The Sugar Kings were led by Steven Jakiela, who scored the team's only goal. Jakiela scored on the power play 3:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Elmira had gotten the advantage when Stratford's Josh Miller was sent off for tripping. Jake Weidner assisted on the tally.

The Cullitons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Sugar Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
