Huge game by Blunt boosts Caledonia over Stratford, 7-1Haldimand Center Sat, Jan 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Ryan Blunt had two goals and one assist to lead the Caledonia Corvairs to a 7-1 victory over the Stratford Cullitons. Blunt found the back of the net on the power play 9:54 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia and again while 4:00 into the second to make the score 4-1 Caledonia.Caledonia's Justis Husak was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 30 saves and let only one puck past him. Husak managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.61 prior to the game. Stratford was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Corvairs were able to score four times while on the power play. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:23 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Caledonia racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The Corvairs surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Caledonia put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cullitons to score on any of their 11 power plays. The Corvairs forced Stratford goalie Nick Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Caledonia's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Corvairs average 4.2 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Caledonia also got points from Matthew Henderson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Connor Murphy, who also registered one goal and two assists, Adam Brady, who also had two goals and one assist, and Matt Quilty, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Caledonia came via Brandon Montour, who had four and Jeff Swift, Tyler Norrie, Greg Christmas, and Mitch Brown, who each chipped in one. The Cullitons forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 16 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Stratford had been spending in the box. The Cullitons' offense operated below they season average. Stratford averages 3.7 goals per game. The Cullitons' offense rang up 31 shots on Caledonia's net. Stratford was led by Andrew Barton, who scored the team's only goal. Barton scored short handed 3:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford. A hooking call on Josh Miller put the Cullitons on the penalty kill. Mike Pleon assisted on the tally. Team's Scott Dorian and Leonard Dziemianko were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Caldwell recorded 38 saves for Stratford. For the Cullitons, Mitch Vandergunst and Jake Ryan were ejected from the contest.
