Strathroy beats St. Marys 6-4 as Watson gets hat trick

Matthew Watson lifted the Strathroy Rockets to a 6-4 victory with a hat trick against the St. Marys Lincolns.

Watson notched his first tally 3:02 into the second period. He then added goals at 5:37 into the second and at 6:35 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:25 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Strathroy forced St. Marys goalie Jacob Theut to work between the pipes, taking 58 shots. The Rockets outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Strathroy averages 3.3 goals per contest. The Rockets had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. Strathroy got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Strathroy additionally got points from Tyler Duarte, who also had one goal and one assist and Chase Thornton, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mike Mandarelli also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Nick Boyer, who had two and Jordan DaSilva, Blake O`Neill, Kurtis Sander, Stuart King, and Tyler Coleman, who contributed one a piece.

The Lincolns' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as St. Marys finished with 26 penalty minutes.

The Lincolns were helped by David Sproat, who registered one goal and two assists. Sproat scored 2:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Marys. Owen MacDonald provided the assist. St. Marys also got points from MacDonald, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Calvin Penney, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. St. Marys also got a goal from Zak MacNaught as well. More assists for St. Marys came via Kurtis Lavis and Marcus Gverzdys, who each chipped in one.

The Rockets' Dalen Kuchmey stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Strathroy ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Rockets, Trevor Dulong was ejected from the game. Jacob Theut made 52 saves for St. Marys on 58 shots. The Lincolns registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Tyler Bryson, Danny Bryan, and Dylan Bedard were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
