Stratford's Langford deadly on offense in 6-2 win against Caledonia

Jonathan Langford was all over the ice for the Stratford Cullitons, as he tallied two goals in Stratford's 6-2 win over the Caledonia Corvairs.

Langford's tallies came at 18:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 4:21 into the second to make the score 2-1 Stratford.

The Cullitons were led by goalie Nick Caldwell, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Caldwell will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.7.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:29 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Stratford penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Cullitons had been spending in the box. Stratford forced Corvairs' netminders to work without much rest, ripping 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Marcus DelConte made 16 stops and Justis Husak made nine. The Cullitons found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Stratford averages 3.7 goals per contest. The Cullitons got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Stratford also got points from Jake Pleon, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Stratford also got a goal from Ryan Watson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Shane O Brien, Mike Pleon, and Jared Culliton, who each chipped in one and Trevor Sauder and Mitch Vandergunst, who contributed three a piece.

Caledonia was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 62 minutes in penalty time. The Corvairs had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Caledonia could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Corvairs put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Caledonia forced Stratford goalie Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Corvairs were led by Connor Murphy, who racked up one goal. Murphy scored 3:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Matt Quilty picked up the assist. Adam Brady also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Tyler Norrie, Mitch Brown, and Nate Mitton, who each chipped in one.

The Cullitons registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. Team's O Brien and Dylan Wettlaufer were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Caledonia registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Corvairs, Justin Abraham and Simon Blythe were ejected from the contest.
