Listowel blows out Elmira, 9-3

The Listowel Cyclones had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-3 win over the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Colten Pickett was all over the ice for Listowel, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Pickett scored 2:28 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Listowel. Sam Harris provided the assist.

The Cyclones' penalty kill excelled, as Listowel gave up one goal despite allowing 11 power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:56 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Cyclones penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and two majors for 64 minutes in penalty time. Listowel surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cyclones forced Elmira's goaltenders to work all game long, launching 36 shots and forcing 27 saves. Mackenzie Blackwood made 12 stops and Hayden Neuman made 15. Listowel bested its season scoring average. The Cyclones average 3.8 goals per game.

Listowel also got points from Dylan Sayles, who also registered one goal and one assist, Tanner Mighton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Shawn Moore, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Jesse Parker, who also had one goal and one assist, Brandon Preistap, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Sam Feagan, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Jacob Robitaille, who also registered two goals and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Mac Nichol, Chris Gillman, and Ben Shelley, who each chipped in one and Tyler Crawford and Scott Coghlin, who contributed two a piece.

The Sugar Kings racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. Elmira had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Sugar Kings kept Listowel's goalie busy throughout the game, and Drew Reinhardt made 44 saves on 47 shots. Elmira's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Cyclones' power play unit.

The Sugar Kings were helped by Brandon Stewart, who racked up two goals. Stewart scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Elmira had gotten the advantage when Listowel's Parker was sent off for head contact. Matt Sheick assisted on the tally. Stewart's next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 Listowel with 12:54 left in the second period. Sheick provided the assist. Elmira additionally got points from Zac Coulter, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Elmira came via Adam Brubacher, Pat McKelvie(APJ), and Steven Jakiela, who each chipped in one.

Team's Harris and Patrick Bell were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For the Sugar Kings, Cash Seraphim and Matt Harding were ejected from the contest.
