GAME RECAP

LaSalle uses shootout to best London, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Western Fair CC    Wed, Jan 09, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the LaSalle Vipers defeated the London Nationals in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, LaSalle got a shootout goal from Dylan Denomme.

The Vipers overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. LaSalle trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by London's Ryan Wells at 7:11 in the second period. The Vipers tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Scott Lombardi at 16:41 in the third period.

The Nationals' power play was ineffective against LaSalle's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Vipers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game LaSalle had been spending in the box.

The Vipers were helped by Spencer VanBuskirk, who racked up one goal. VanBuskirk scored 13:11 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Brad Carroll assisted on the tally. LaSalle also got points from Korey Morgan, who also had one goal and one assist and Denomme, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Scott Prier, who had two.

London excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Nationals kept LaSalle's goalie busy throughout the game, and Taylor Speed made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Matt Wildman also scored for London. In addition, London received assists from Connor Allison, who had two and Noah Schwartz, Paul Hopkins, Jonathan Sims, and Tyler Bryden, who each chipped in one.

For the Vipers, Zack Percy was ejected from the game. Taylor Edwards rejected 19 shots on goal for London. The Nationals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
