Cambridge falls to Stratford in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Stratford Cullitons pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Cambridge Winter Hawks on a clutch goal by Shane O Brien.

Stratford came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cullitons fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Cambridge's Mitch Klie at 15:05 in the second period. Stratford knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Dylan Wettlaufer at 19:34 in the third period.

The Cullitons were led by O Brien, who racked up one goal. O Brien scored 52 seconds into overtime to make the score 5-4 Stratford. Mike Pleon provided the assist.

The Winter Hawks were unable to stop Stratford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cullitons eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Stratford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cullitons finished with 42 penalty minutes.

Stratford also got points from Jonathan Langford, who also had one goal and one assist and Mitch Vandergunst, who also registered one goal and one assist. Stratford also got a goal from Josh Miller as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Ryan Watson, Brett Heaman, and Trevor Sauder, who each chipped in one and Andrew Barton and Jake Ryan, who contributed two a piece.

Cambridge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Stratford to score on any of its seven power plays. The Winter Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cambridge was helped by Cameron Pentsa, who tallied two goals. Pentsa scored the first of his two goals at 11:04 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Cody Gratton assisted on the tally. Pentsa's next tally made the score 3-2 Cambridge with 5:49 left in the second period. Brennon Pearce picked up the assist. Cambridge additionally got points from Chris Taylor, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Cambridge came via Todd Bannermon, who had two and Kyle Locke and Andrew Coupland, who each chipped in one.

The Cullitons' Nick Caldwell stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Lucas Machalski rejected 33 shots on goal for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
