LaSalle beats St. Marys 4-3 after comeback scare

The St. Marys Lincolns tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the LaSalle Vipers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

LaSalle took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have St. Marys storm back on a David Sproat goal 14:21 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Vipers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.

LaSalle forced Lincolns' goalies to work in net, launching 34 shots and forcing 30 saves. Craig Wood made 18 stops and Jacob Theut made 12. The Vipers stifled the Lincolns' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

LaSalle was helped by Ben Hanus, who tallied one goal. Hanus scored on the power play 1:36 into the third period to make the score LaSalle. The Vipers had taken the advantage when St. Marys' Wood got sent off for delay of game. Scott Prier picked up the assist. LaSalle additionally got points from Dylan Seguin, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. LaSalle also got a goal from Blake Jones as well. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Chris Pignanelli, who had one and Eric Noel, who had two.

The Lincolns could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

St. Marys was helped by Marcus Gverzdys, who registered one goal. Gverzdys scored 18:35 into the second period to make the score 3-2 LaSalle. Sproat assisted on the tally. St. Marys also got points from Sproat, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Cody Filson, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for St. Marys came via Tyler Bryson, Calvin Penney, Dean Pawlaczky, and Zak MacNaught, who each chipped in one.

Taylor Speed recorded 21 saves for LaSalle. The Vipers registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Lincolns registered zero goals on six power play opportunities.
