Niagara Falls' Vinnai deadly on offense in 6-3 win against Fort Erie

Behind a great game by Cole Vinnai, who had two goals, the Niagara Falls Canucks defeated the Fort Erie Meteors, 6-3.

Vinnai scored at 3:54 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while short handed 11:43 into the second to make the score 3-2 Niagara Falls.

Fort Erie's power play was ineffective against Niagara Falls' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Canucks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Niagara Falls' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Canucks finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for Niagara Falls included Vito Scaringi, who had two and Cam Stewart and Denis Creighton, who scored one goal each. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Derek Dallman, who had three, Johnny Curran, Michael Christou, Cole Langan, and Marcus Michalski, who contributed one a piece, and Tory McLean and Darren Young, who each chipped in two.

The Meteors' offense rang up 41 shots on Niagara Falls' net.

Fort Erie was helped by Nigel Slade, who racked up one goal. Slade scored 10:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. Cameron Fairgrieve provided the assist. Fort Erie additionally got points from Mike Boles, who also registered one goal and one assist. Aaron Wanat also scored for Fort Erie. More assists for Fort Erie came via Josh Micallef, Carson Johnstone, and Kyle Marino, who contributed one a piece.

Hunter Johnson made 38 saves for the Canucks on 41 shots. Niagara Falls registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Canucks, Vinnai was ejected from the game. The Meteors' starting goalie, Wyatt Pickrell, made 15 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Connor Visca, who stopped three shots. Fort Erie incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
