Caledonia squeaks by Kitchener, 3-2Haldimand Center Fri, Dec 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Caledonia Corvairs and the Kitchener Dutchmen was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Caledonia emerged with a 3-2 win. The Corvairs gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mitch Brown 4:24 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Brown had a great game for Caledonia, netting two goals. Kitchener's power play was ineffective against the Corvairs' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:34 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Caledonia put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Dutchmen to score on any of their eight power plays. The Corvairs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 25 minutes in penalties during the game. Tyler Norrie also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Connor Murphy and Nate Mitton, who contributed one a piece and Ryan Blunt and Jeff Swift, who each chipped in two. Penalties took their toll on Kitchener, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals. The Dutchmen were helped by Chris Eckert, who registered one goal. Eckert scored 2:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. Dylan Bursey picked up the assist. Kitchener also got a goal from Brett Clampitt as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Matt Guild, who had one. Justis Husak rejected 24 shots on goal for Caledonia. The Corvairs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Norrie was ejected from the game. Jack Moylan recorded 22 saves for Kitchener. The Dutchmen ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Kitchener, Philip Moser was ejected from the game.
