GAME RECAP

Stoney Creek outlasts Buffalo, 3-2

Buffalo State College Arena    Tue, Dec 18, 2012

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Stoney Creek Warriors escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Jr. Blades.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Wesley St. Amand secured the win for Stoney Creek with a goal in the third period.

The Warriors were paced by St. Amand, who registered one goal. St. Amand scored on the power play 15:06 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Stoney Creek. Stoney Creek had taken the advantage when Buffalo's Gary Seitz got sent off for interference. Ryan Lewis assisted on the tally.

The Warriors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Jr. Blades were unable to stop Stoney Creek from sending pucks towards the net, and the Warriors eventually piled up 49 shots on goal.

Jordan Thomas also scored for Stoney Creek. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Dave Eccles, who had two and Parsa Monsef, Harry Polyoka, and Cordell James, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo's penalty kill managed to stymie Stoney Creek's power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down. The Jr. Blades' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Buffalo finished with 46 penalty minutes.

The Jr. Blades were helped by Nick Berst, who tallied one goal. Berst scored 3:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. Matt Diehl provided the assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Dan DeFranco as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Josh Gordon and Kennedy Monaco, who contributed one a piece.

Brendan Polasek rejected 19 shots on goal for the Warriors. Stoney Creek incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Buffalo's Ian Shorthouse stopped 46 shots out of the 49 that he faced.
