London squeaks by St. Thomas, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the London Nationals escaped with a 5-3 victory over the St. Thomas Stars.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Tyler Bryden's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

London was paced on offense by Noah Schwartz and Bryden, who combined for four points. Schwartz registered two goals and one assist and Bryden also added one goal.

The Nationals pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

London additionally got points from Paxton Leroux, who also racked up one goal and one assist. London also got a goal from Jonathan Sims as well. In addition, London received assists from Blake Thomas, who had two and Scott Lombardi and Aaron Dartch, who each chipped in one.

St. Thomas kept London's goalie busy throughout the game, and Taylor Edwards made 43 saves on 46 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Stars could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

St. Thomas was helped by Braden Hellems, who had two goals. Hellems scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:17 into the second period to make the score 3-2 London. The Stars earned a power play opportunity when Leroux was put in the box for boarding. Scott Mitchell assisted on the tally. Hellems' next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 14:16 left in the third period. Mike Iacocca picked up the assist. St. Thomas also got points from Mitchell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for St. Thomas came via Cam Garrow, who had one and Ian MacDonald, who had two.

The Nationals registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Donald Edwards rejected 21 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
