Thorold uses shootout to best Stoney Creek, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Thorold Blackhawks defeated the Stoney Creek Warriors in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Thorold's Vinny Merante was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. Merante managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.0 prior to the game.

The Blackhawks' offense operated below they season average. Thorold puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.

The Blackhawks were helped by Owen Sobchak, who finished with one goal. Sobchak scored 10:28 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. Dan Chudobiak assisted on the tally. More assists for Thorold came via Joe DiBiasi, who had one.

Stoney Creek's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Thorold power plays.

The Warriors were led by Neil Aird, who scored the team's only goal. Aird scored 19:18 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Lewis picked up the assist.

Thorold incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Alexander Brooks-Potts made 28 saves for Stoney Creek on 29 shots. The Warriors incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
