DeMarco's big game bests Port Colborne in 6-3 Fort Erie win

Behind a great game by Richard DeMarco, who had two goals and one assist, the Fort Erie Meteors defeated the Port Colborne Pirates, 6-3.

DeMarco scored at 2:53 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 18:01 into the third to make the score 5-3 Fort Erie.

Port Colborne's power play was ineffective against Fort Erie's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:11 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Pirates were unable to stop the Meteors from sending pucks towards the net, and Fort Erie eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Meteors' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Fort Erie averages 3.0 goals per contest.

Fort Erie also got points from Aaron Wanat, who also had one goal and one assist. Fort Erie also got a goal from Anthony Passero as well. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Jesse Parker, who had two and Austin Carroll, Carson Johnstone, Jonathan England, Andy Sturtz, Andrew Reis, Connor Visca, and Jesse Pereira, who contributed one a piece.

Port Colborne stifled the Meteors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Pirates forced Fort Erie goalie Visca to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The defensemen of Port Colborne were also effective in the Meteors' zone, and came away with two goals.

The Pirates were helped by Joe Dagostino, who grabbed one goal. Dagostino scored 6:31 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Colborne. Ryan Pilon provided the assist. John DiLorenzo also scored for Port Colborne. More assists for Port Colborne came via Zack Deconilys, DYLAN BURDICK, Evan Huckalo, and Bryan Komasara, who each chipped in one.

Connor Visca made 37 saves for Fort Erie on 40 shots. The Meteors totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Fort Erie ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Fairgrieve was ejected from the game. Morgan Hudson rejected 33 shots on goal for Port Colborne. The Pirates ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For Port Colborne, Nathan Judd-Warren was ejected from the game.
