Stratford beats Guelph 7-1 as Ryan gets hat trick

A hat trick by Jake Ryan was the highlight in Cullitons' 7-1 win against the Guelph Hurricanes.

Ryan's first goal came 10:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:21 into the first and at 37 seconds into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:56 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Guelph was unable to stop the Stratford Cullitons from sending pucks towards the net, and Stratford eventually piled up 61 shots on goal. The Cullitons outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Stratford averages 3.6 goals per contest. The Cullitons were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Stratford also got points from Ryan Watson, who also registered two goals and three assists and Andrew Barton, who also had one goal and five assists to lead the team in points. Stratford also got a goal from Dylan Wettlaufer as well. More assists for Stratford came via Mike Pleon, who had two and Jared Culliton and Jeff McArdle, who each chipped in one.

The the Hurricanes penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Guelph had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The Hurricanes were led by Dustin Baker, who scored the team's only goal. Baker scored on the power play 10:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Guelph had gotten the advantage when Stratford's Jake Pleon was sent off for hooking. Sebastian Stangherlin assisted on the tally.

Michael Pesendorfer rejected 24 shots on goal for the Cullitons. Stratford ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. The Cullitons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Pleon was ejected from the game. Jason DaSilva recorded 54 saves for the Hurricanes. Guelph registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Hurricanes, Matt Nightingale was ejected from the game.
