Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Welland Jr. Canadians defeated the Niagara Falls Canucks in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.Welland saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Jr. Canadians made the score 3-0 on a power play goal by Pol Gonzalez at 17:24 in the second period. Niagara Falls evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Michael Christou at 18:28 in the third period. Welland pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. The Canucks were unable to stop the Jr. Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Welland eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Jr. Canadians were helped by Chris Langdon, who registered one goal. Langdon scored 13:50 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Welland. Matt Gillard provided the assist. Welland additionally got points from Gonzalez, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Spencer Giles also scored for Welland. More assists for Welland came via Chris Brown, who had two and Brooker Muir and Gabe Ruggi, who contributed one a piece. Niagara Falls was helped by Darren Young, who grabbed one goal. Young scored on the power play 1:35 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Welland. Frank Nemeth assisted on the tally. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Jamie Cardamone as well.
