St. Catharines survives penalties, beats Stoney Creek, 3-0Jack Gatecliff Rink Fri, Dec 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the St. Catharines Falcons were able to defeat the Stoney Creek Warriors, 3-0. St. Catharines was paced by Julian Luciani, who finished with one goal. Luciani scored on the power play 2:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines. The Falcons had gained a power play chance when Parsa Monsef was whistled for cross checking. Ben Walsh assisted on the tally. St. Catharines excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Falcons could not produce up to they normal offensive output. St. Catharines averages 6.0 goals per game. The Falcons was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. St. Catharines gives up 2.6 goals on average per game. Stoney Creek was unable to stop the Falcons from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Catharines eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Falcons could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. St. Catharines also got a goal from Aaron Taylor as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Jimmy Sheehan, who had two and Greg Jambrosich, Stormer Santana, and Luke Karaim, who contributed one a piece. The Warriors were held below their usual level of production. Stoney Creek puts an average of 2.8 pucks into the net per game. The Warriors were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 26 penalty minutes. Santana recorded 21 saves for St. Catharines. The Falcons registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. St. Catharines ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Taylor was ejected from the game. Alexander Brooks-Potts rejected 32 shots on goal for Stoney Creek. For the Warriors, Alexander Zaccaria was ejected from the game.
