Boyer leads Sarnia over Strathroy, 7-3

The Strathroy Rockets had trouble finding ways to stop the Sarnia Legionnaires, which beat Rockets, 7-3.

Strathroy's power play was ineffective against Sarnia's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:31 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Legionnaires' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Strathroy power plays. Sarnia kept the Rockets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Gordie Weiss made 43 saves on 50 shots. The Legionnaires bested their season scoring average. Sarnia averages 3.6 goals per game. The Legionnaires' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Sarnia finished with 26 penalty minutes. The Legionnaires' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Sarnia was led by Davis Boyer, who racked up one goal and three assists. Boyer scored 4:06 into the third period to make the score 4-1 Sarnia. Sarnia also had goals scored by Josh Kestner, who had two and Chad Beauchamp, Jason Teschke, Steve Farlow, and Bobby King, who each put in one. More assists for Sarnia came via Jeff Bauer, who had one and Matt Cimetta, Nathan Mater, and Jeff King, who each chipped in two.

Strathroy forced the Legionnaires goalie Sean Parker to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Rockets were helped by Nick Boyer, who registered one goal. Boyer scored 14:20 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Sarnia. Tyler Kettler assisted on the tally. Strathroy additionally got points from Ryan Field, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Chase Thornton, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Jacob Baribeau, who had one and Tyler Duarte, who had two.

Sean Parker made 33 saves for Sarnia on 36 shots. The Legionnaires registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Sarnia, Derek D`Andrea and PJ Vandervaart were ejected from the contest. Strathroy ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. Team's Luke Jackson and Tyler Coleman were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
