Elmira vanquishes Stratford in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)Allman Arena Fri, Dec 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Elmira Sugar Kings defeated the Stratford Cullitons in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Stratford's shootout goal was scored by Andrew Barton. Elmira also got a shootout goal from Brady Campbell.The Sugar Kings overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Elmira trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Cullitons' Shane O Brien at 3:06 in the second period. The Sugar Kings tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Jake Weidner at 19:01 in the third period. Elmira excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Sugar Kings kept Stratford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nick Caldwell made 33 saves on 36 shots. Elmira also got points from Campbell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Elmira received assists from Pat McKelvie(APJ), who had one. Elmira was unable to stop the Cullitons from sending pucks towards the net, and Stratford eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. The Cullitons were helped by Ryker Killins, who registered one goal. Killins scored 6:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford. Trevor Sauder picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Ryan Watson, Trevor MacDonald, and Mike Pleon, who contributed one a piece. Hayden Neuman recorded 34 saves for the Sugar Kings. Elmira incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Stratford incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
