St. Thomas boosted by Edwards' play in net, beats Leamington 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Donald Edwards helped the St. Thomas Stars defeat the Leamington Flyers, 2-1.

St. Thomas' penalty kill excelled, as the Stars gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

St. Thomas was sparked by Drew Collinson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Collinson scored 19:46 into the third period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas. Mike Iacocca provided the assist.

The Stars forced Leamington goalie Austyn Roudebush to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Iacocca, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Martin Kudla, who had two.

The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Leamington was held below its usual level of production. The Flyers average 3.8 goals per game. Leamington's offense rang up 36 shots on St. Thomas' net.

The Flyers were led by Tony Spidalieri, who scored the team's only goal. Spidalieri scored on the power play 9:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Leamington had taken the advantage when the Stars' Braden Hellems got sent off for slashing. Nick Beaune picked up the assist.

Edwards recorded 35 saves for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Austyn Roudebush made 29 saves for the Flyers on 31 shots. Leamington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
