St. Catharines beats Port Colborne 4-3 after comeback scare

The St. Catharines Falcons survived a determined comeback attempt by the Port Colborne Pirates on the way to a 4-3 win.

St. Catharines made the score 4-2 on a goal by Luke Karaim at 11:35 in the third period, and Port Colborne got as close as 4-3 when Dayne Phillips scored 14:41 into the third period.

The Falcons were held below their usual level of production. St. Catharines averages 6.4 goals per game. The Pirates were unable to stop the Falcons from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Catharines eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Falcons found themselves short handed often, totaling 38 penalty minutes and allowing 12 power plays.

St. Catharines also got points from Ben Walsh, who also had one goal and two assists and Mitch Bennett, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Aaron Taylor also scored for St. Catharines. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Julian Luciani, who had one.

Port Colborne kept St. Catharines' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathon D Ilario made 32 saves on 35 shots.

Port Colborne additionally got points from Zack Deconilys, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Pat Murphy, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Port Colborne came via Dima Lavrenov, who had one.

The Falcons registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Real Cormier rejected 36 shots on goal for the Pirates. Port Colborne incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Team's Michael Sharp and Ryan Stayner were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
