Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Welland Jr. Canadians defeated the St. Catharines Falcons in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed 22 turns to complete the shootout.Welland overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Jr. Canadians trailed 4-2 after a goal by St. Catharines' Tyler Jackson at 3:27 in the third period. Welland tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jason Lacroix at 7:57 in the third period. The Jr. Canadians forced the Falcons goalie Marcus Del Conte to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Welland also got points from Riley Brooks, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Chris Brown, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Braden Curry, who had two and Aaron Beally, Matt Gillard, Spencer Giles, and Chris Langdon, who contributed one a piece. St. Catharines was held below its usual level of production. The Falcons average 6.5 goals per game. St. Catharines kept Welland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris McDougall made 43 saves on 47 shots. The Falcons' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual.
