Christou's hat trick boosts Niagara Falls over Buffalo, 11-3Gale Centre Fri, Nov 30, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
A hat trick by Michael Christou was the highlight in Canucks' 11-3 win against the Buffalo Jr. Blades. Christou got on the scoresheet 57 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 4:37 into the second and at 4:15 into the third.The Niagara Falls Canucks scored early and often, and held a 4-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play. Buffalo's power play was ineffective against Niagara Falls' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Canucks forced the Jr. Blades' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 41 shots and forcing 30 saves. Ian Shorthouse made 17 stops and Brandon Klein made 13. Niagara Falls found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Canucks average 4.9 goals per contest. The defensemen of Niagara Falls were also effective in Buffalo's zone, and came away with three goals. Niagara Falls also got points from Cole Vinnai, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Marcus Michalski, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Vittorio Giannico, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Darren Young, who also registered two goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Jamie Cardamone as well. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Tory McLean, Drew Berkel, and Derek Dallman, who each chipped in one, Johnny Curran and Cam Stewart, who contributed two a piece, and Brad Kri and Frank Nemeth, who each chipped in three. The Jr. Blades were led by Matt CoreyAPM, who racked up one goal and two assists. CoreyAPM scored 8:55 into the second period to make the score 6-1 Niagara Falls. Tyler Gallagher picked up the assist. Buffalo additionally got points from Nick Berst, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Tom Hanna also scored for Buffalo. More assists for Buffalo came via Josh Gordon, who had one. Dylan Pietrangelo recorded 20 saves for the Canucks. Niagara Falls incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Buffalo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
