Guelph survives Stratford comeback, wins 6-5Victoria Road Community Center Thu, Nov 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Guelph Hurricanes survived a determined comeback attempt by the Stratford Cullitons on the way to a 6-5 win. Guelph took a 6-4 lead during the third period, only to have Stratford storm back on a Jake Ryan goal 18:14 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Hurricanes got the win behind a great game by Ian Chan, who had two goals and one assist. Chan scored the first of his two goals at 14:51 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Guelph. Blair McIntosh picked up the assist. Chan's next tally made the score 5-4 Guelph with 6:28 left in the third period. Guelph put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cullitons to score on any of their five power plays. The Hurricanes kept Stratford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Metzger made 27 saves on 33 shots. Guelph bested its season scoring average. This season, the Hurricanes average 2.1 goals per contest. Guelph additionally got points from McIntosh, who also had one goal and one assist. Guelph also got a goal from John Najafi as well. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Matt Nightingale, Brock Malatches, Steven Domenichini, Caleb Champagne, Zach McFadden, and Sebastian Stangherlin, who each chipped in one. The Cullitons forced Guelph goalie Jason DaSilva to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Stratford was led by Dylan Wettlaufer, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Wettlaufer scored 11:52 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Mitch Brooks provided the assist. Stratford also got points from Andrew Barton, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Ryan, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ryan Watson also scored for Stratford. More assists for Stratford came via Trevor Sauder, who had one and Shane O Brien, who had two. The Hurricanes' DaSilva stopped 29 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Guelph incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cullitons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Stratford, Josh Miller was ejected from the game.
