MacDonald nets hat trick, leads St. Thomas to 10-4 win over ChathamChatham Memorial Arena Fri, Nov 23, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Ian MacDonald lifted the St. Thomas Stars to a 10-4 victory with a hat trick against the Chatham Maroons. MacDonald's first goal came 4:44 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:30 into the second and at 17:17 into the third.St. Thomas pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes. The Stars forced Chatham goalie Darien Ekblad to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. St. Thomas outdid its season average for goals scored. The Stars have scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign. St. Thomas took advantage of the Maroons' penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. St. Thomas additionally got points from Colin Mooney, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Michael Lucifora, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also had goals scored by Chris Maton, who had one and Martin Kudla, who had three. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Scott Mitchell, who had three, Matt Schurr, Cam Garrow, Ashton Waters, Luc Knight, Nathan Judd Warren, Braden Hellems, and Trevor Abbott, who each chipped in one, and Ryan Hamelin and Drew Collinson, who contributed two a piece. Chatham kept the Stars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Donald Edwards made 31 saves on 35 shots. The Maroons were led by Brennan Feasey, who had two goals and one assist. Feasey scored the first of his two goals at 10:31 into the second period to make the score 3-2 St. Thomas. Steven Szekesy assisted on the tally. Feasey's next tally made the score 6-4 St. Thomas with 7:33 left in the third period. Eric Palazzolo provided the assist. Chatham also got points from Sean Myers, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Chatham also got a goal from Michael Verboom as well. In addition, Chatham received assists from Ben Pataki, Brayden Hopkins, and Blake Blondeel, who each chipped in one. Ekblad rejected 25 shots on goal for Chatham. The Maroons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
