Guelph vanquishes Brampton in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Guelph Hurricanes defeated the Brampton Bombers in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Guelph overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Hurricanes trailed 2-0 after a goal by Brampton's Nik Borschevsky at 8:52 in the first period. Guelph tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Zach McFadden at 13:05 in the third period.

The Hurricanes put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bombers to score on any of their three power plays. Guelph surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Hurricanes average 1.8 goal per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Guelph additionally got points from Nico Giannantonio, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ben Rolefson also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Matt Lippa, who had two and Mike Wilkins and John Najafi, who each chipped in one.

Brampton was helped by Brendan Lyons, who racked up one goal. Lyons scored 3:41 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Brampton. Brad Sheppard picked up the assist. Brampton also got a goal from Brady Clouthier as well. In addition, Brampton received assists from Eric DiCarlo, Brandon Clelland, and Francois Cote, who contributed one a piece.

Quinton Henry recorded 25 saves for Guelph. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Bombers' Erik Angeli stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Brampton incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
