Kitchener survives Brampton comeback, wins 5-3

The Brampton Bombers tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Kitchener Dutchmen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

Kitchener made the score 5-2 on a goal by Keli Grant at 15:13 in the third period, and Brampton got as close as 5-3 when Brady Clouthier scored 18:44 into the third period.

John Divo was all over the ice for the Dutchmen, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Divo scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:53 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Kitchener. Kitchener had gained a power play chance when Kurt Wolff was whistled for roughing after whistle. Grant assisted on the tally. Divo's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Kitchener with 1:01 left in the second period. The Dutchmen had gotten the advantage when the Bombers' Brad Sheppard was sent off for high sticking. Steven Jakiela picked up the assist.

Kitchener excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Brampton was unable to stop the Dutchmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Kitchener eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. The Dutchmen's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Kitchener also got points from Keegan Calder, who also had one goal and one assist and Grant, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Kitchener also got a goal from Philip Moser as well. More assists for Kitchener came via Tyler Hoffman, who had one.

The Bombers forced Kitchener goalie Jack Moylan to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Brampton additionally got points from Brandon Clelland, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Brampton received assists from Calvin Gomes and Phil Caputo, who contributed two a piece.

The Dutchmen's Moylan stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Kitchener incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Bryan Raymond made 38 saves for Brampton on 43 shots. The Bombers ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. Brampton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Capicotto was ejected from the game.
