Weidner's big game bests Brampton in 3-1 Elmira win

The Elmira Sugar Kings' Jake Weidner had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 3-1 win over the Brampton Bombers.

Weidner beat Bryan Raymond with a shot 18:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. Brady Campbell picked up the assist. Weidner dished an assist on Campbell's goal that made the score 1-1 at 12:57 into the second period. He added another helper on Pat McKelvie(APJ)'s goal that made the score 3-1 Elmira at 18:42 into the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:04 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Elmira stifled Brampton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bombers were unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Elmira also got points from Campbell, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Elmira received assists from Cash Seraphim and Clayton Greer, who contributed one a piece.

Brampton was led by Matt Capicotto, who scored the team's only goal. Capicotto scored 5:45 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Brampton. Kyle Allan assisted on the tally.

Hayden Neuman made 22 saves for the Sugar Kings on 23 shots. Elmira totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For the Sugar Kings, Craig Johnson was ejected from the game. Raymond rejected 28 shots on goal for the Bombers. Brampton totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. The Bombers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kurt Wolff was ejected from the game.
