Caledonia holds on for 4-3 win against Port ColborneHaldimand Center Sat, Nov 10, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Caledonia Corvairs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Port Colborne Pirates on the way to a 4-3 win. Caledonia took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Port Colborne storm back on a Dima Lavrenov goal 15:27 into the third period to pull to one goal down. Connor Murphy was all over the ice for the Corvairs, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Murphy scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:51 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. Caledonia had gotten the advantage when the Pirates' Dayne Phillips was sent off for abuse of officials. Ryan Blunt assisted on the tally. Murphy's next tally on the power play made the score Caledonia with 14:58 left in the third period. Matt Quilty picked up the assist. The Corvairs forced Port Colborne goalie Morgan Hudson to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Caledonia was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Corvairs were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on 16 chances. Caledonia also got points from Quilty, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Caledonia also got a goal from Steven Comegna as well. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Brier Jonathan, who had one and Tyler Norrie, who had two. The Pirates' offense rang up 31 shots on Caledonia's net. Port Colborne was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 44 penalty minutes. Ryan Stayner also scored for Port Colborne. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Zack Deconilys, who had two and DYLAN BURDICK and Jordan Warren, who contributed one a piece. Justis Husak rejected 28 shots on goal for the Corvairs. For Caledonia, Jeff Swift and Dalton Riley were ejected from the contest. Hudson recorded 28 saves for the Pirates. Port Colborne registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
