Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Caledonia Corvairs defeated the Buffalo Jr. Blades in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed 18 turns to complete the shootout. Buffalo's shootout goal was scored by Tyler Kessler. In addition to the clincher, Caledonia got a shootout goal from Matt Quilty.The Corvairs came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Caledonia trailed 3-1 after a short handed goal by the Jr. Blades' Nick Berst at 10:27 in the third period. The Corvairs knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Brandon Montour at 18:04 in the third period. Caledonia put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Buffalo to score on any of its five power plays. The Corvairs kept the Jr. Blades' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Shorthouse made 54 saves on 59 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Caledonia additionally got points from Jeff Swift, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Quilty, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Dalton Riley, who had one and Connor Murphy and Mitch Brown, who each chipped in two. Buffalo forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Jr. Blades had been spending in the box. Buffalo was led by Tom Hanna, who had two goals. Hanna scored the first of his two goals short handed at 4:44 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo. The Jr. Blades played down a man on Domenic Gruttadauria's unsportsmanlike conduct. Kessler assisted on the tally. Hanna's next tally short handed made the score 4-3 Buffalo with 3:01 left in the third period. Kessler picked up the assist. Buffalo also got points from Berst, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Dan DeFranco, who had one. Caledonia's Justis Husak stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Corvairs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Buffalo, Andrew Herrmann was ejected from the game.
