Chatham beats Sarnia 3-0 as Ekblad gains shutout

Darien Ekblad was superb between the pipes for the Chatham Maroons, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires.

Eric Palazzolo had a great game for Chatham, netting two goals. Palazzolo's tallies came at 4:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham and on the power play 17:05 into the third to make the score 3-0 Chatham.

The Maroons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Sarnia to score on any of its four power plays. Chatham's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Maroons average 2.9 goals allowed per game. Chatham's offense rang up 42 shots on the Legionnaires' net.

Chatham also got points from Trevor Richardson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Chatham received assists from Jake Flegel, who had two and Nate Pietens, Steven Szekesy, and Michael Verboom, who contributed one a piece.

Sarnia's offense operated below it season average. The Legionnaires average 3.5 goals per game. Sarnia kept the Maroons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ekblad made 33 saves on 33 shots.

Chatham incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Sean Parker recorded 39 saves for the Legionnaires. Sarnia ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Legionnaires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jeff Paulley was ejected from the game.
