Sarnia beats St. Marys 3-1 after comeback scare

The Sarnia Legionnaires survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Marys Lincolns on the way to a 3-1 win.

Sarnia took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have St. Marys storm back on a Calvin Penney goal 6:08 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Jason Teschke had two goals to lead the Legionnaires to victory.

Sarnia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances.

Sarnia also got points from Jeff Bauer, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Sarnia came via Derek D`Andrea, Bobby King, and Tyler Prong, who each chipped in one.

The Lincolns did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Marys puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. The Legionnaires were unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

In addition, St. Marys received assists from Mike Mandarelli, who had one.

Sean Parker recorded 41 saves for Sarnia. The Legionnaires incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Devin Golets made 22 saves for the Lincolns on 25 shots. St. Marys incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
