Guelph outlasts Kitchener, 3-2Kinsmen Arena Tue, Oct 30, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Guelph Hurricanes and the Kitchener Dutchmen was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Guelph emerged with a 3-2 win. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Ian Chan's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Jordan Hatzinger had two goals to lead the Hurricanes to victory. Hatzinger's tallies came at 9:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 2:04 into the second to make the score 2-1 Guelph. Guelph's penalty kill excelled, as the Hurricanes gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. In addition, Guelph received assists from Steven Domenichini and Daniel Brennen, who each chipped in one and Matt Nightingale and James Murray(APJ), who contributed two a piece. Kitchener excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Dutchmen's offense operated below they season average. Kitchener puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Dutchmen forced Guelph goalie Marcus Nepinak to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots. Kitchener was helped by Keegan Calder, who had one goal. Calder scored on the power play 6:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. The Dutchmen earned a power play opportunity when Blair McIntosh was put in the box for hooking. Brett Clampitt picked up the assist. Matt Guild also scored for Kitchener. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Keli Grant, Steven Jakiela, and Chris Eckert, who each chipped in one. The Hurricanes' Nepinak stopped 48 shots out of the 50 that he faced. Guelph incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Marc Williams rejected 23 shots on goal for Kitchener. The Dutchmen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
