Listowel uses shootout to best Stratford, 6-5 (2-1 SO)Allman Arena Fri, Oct 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Listowel Cyclones defeated the Stratford Cullitons in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Stratford got a shootout goal from Jared Culliton. Listowel also got a shootout goal from Caleb Cameron.The Cyclones saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Listowel made the score 5-2 on a goal by Colten Pickett at 8:16 in the third period. The Cullitons evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Ryker Killins at 14:17 in the third period. The Cyclones' offense rang up 32 shots on Stratford's net. Listowel outdid its season average for goals scored. The Cyclones have scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Listowel was led by Cameron, who registered two goals. Cameron scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:09 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Listowel. The Cyclones had gotten the advantage when the Cullitons' Mitch Brooks was sent off for tripping. Tanner Mighton picked up the assist. Cameron's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Listowel with 1:53 left in the second period. Kyle Ellis provided the assist. Listowel also got a goal from Patrick Bell as well. In addition, Listowel received assists from Mac Nichol, Shawn Moore, Scott Pawson, and Jacob Robitaille, who contributed one a piece. Stratford kept Listowel's goalie busy throughout the game, and Drew Reinhardt made 47 saves on 52 shots. The defensemen of the Cullitons were also effective in the Cyclones' zone, and came away with three goals. Stratford was helped by Jordan Currie, who tallied two goals. Currie scored the first of his two goals at 9:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Watson assisted on the tally. Currie's next tally made the score 5-4 Listowel with 6:46 left in the third period. Jake Ryan picked up the assist. Stratford also got points from Killins, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Jonathan Langford also scored for Stratford. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Mike Pleon and Garret James (APM), who each chipped in one and Shane O Brien and Trevor Sauder, who contributed two a piece. Listowel incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Joe Metzger rejected 26 shots on goal for the Cullitons. Stratford incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
