Port Colborne uses shootout to best St. Catharines, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Colborne Pirates defeated the St. Catharines Falcons in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Port Colborne came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Pirates trailed 3-0 after a goal by St. Catharines' Mitch Bennett at 11:04 in the second period. Port Colborne knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Charlie Izaguirre at 3:08 in the third period.

Izaguirre had a great game for the Pirates, netting two goals.

Port Colborne managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Pirates ended up below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Port Colborne was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play.

Port Colborne additionally got points from Dayne Phillips, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Bryan Komasara, who had one and Zack Deconilys, who had three.

The Falcons were held below their usual level of production. St. Catharines averages 7.1 goals per game. The Falcons forced the Pirates goalie Real Cormier to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Jesse Miller also scored for St. Catharines. More assists for St. Catharines came via Kyle Woodhouse, who had two and Koddi Quick, Spencer DeWolfe, Julian Luciani, and Braeden Kavaravtzis, who contributed one a piece.

Real Cormier made 35 saves for Port Colborne on 38 shots. Marcus Del Conte rejected 26 shots on goal for St. Catharines. The Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
