Caledonia beats Waterloo 6-2 as Easvet gains shutout

Zach Easvet recorded a shutout against the Waterloo Siskins as the Caledonia Corvairs picked up a 6-2 win.

Caledonia was sparked by Tyler Norrie, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Norrie scored on the power play 19:12 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Caledonia. The Corvairs had gained a power play chance when James Soper was whistled for tripping. Ryan Blunt assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:26 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Caledonia was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Corvairs had been averaging 32.0 minutes in penalties per game. Caledonia put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Waterloo to score on any of its three power plays. The Corvairs forced the Siskins goalie PJ Bridges to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

Caledonia additionally got points from Connor Murphy, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Caledonia included Dalton Riley, who had two and Fabrizio Ricci and Nate Mitton, who scored one goal each. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Scott Dorian, Greg Christmas, and Brendan Bomberry, who each chipped in one.

Waterloo racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The Siskins surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. Waterloo made Caledonia's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 33 shots and forcing 31 saves. Easvet made 27 stops and Justis Husak made four.

The Siskins were helped by Ted Anstett, who tallied one goal. Anstett scored short handed 6:27 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Waterloo played down a man on Keigan Goetz's high sticking. Waterloo also got a goal from Blake Hetherington as well. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Jordan Cale and Evan Buehler, who contributed one a piece.

The Corvairs registered two goals on 16 power play opportunities. For Caledonia, Nathan Ferris was ejected from the game. Bridges recorded 40 saves for the Siskins. Team's Jacob Ariss and Ryan Doucette were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
