Copeland's big game bests Fort Erie in 9-3 Thorold win

The Thorold Blackhawks were firing on all cylinders against the Fort Erie Meteors, and when the final buzzer sounded Blackhawks emerged with a 9-3 win.

Adrian Copeland was all over the ice for Thorold, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Copeland scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. A tripping penalty on Austin Carroll had put the Blackhawks on the power play. Vince Dunn picked up the assist. Copeland's next tally on the power play made the score 7-2 Thorold with 13:48 left in the third period. Matthew Hoszko provided the assist.

Fort Erie's power play was ineffective against Thorold's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Blackhawks made the Meteors' goaltenders to work in net, getting 31 shots and forcing 22 saves. Wyatt Pickrell made 14 stops and Connor Visca made eight. Thorold excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Blackhawks bested their season scoring average. This season, Thorold averages 4.1 goals per contest.

Others who scored for Thorold included Mark Arnone, who had two, Tanner Pagendam, who had three, and Ben Hughes and Dan Chudobiak, who scored one goal each. More assists for Thorold came via Owen Sobchak, who had two, Brian Brosnan, Kevin Lavoie, Mackenzie Mac Avoy, Roger Sherwood, and Joe DiBiasi, who each chipped in one, and Matt Pizzo and Myles Falasca, who contributed three a piece.

Penalties took their toll on Fort Erie, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. The Meteors' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Fort Erie was helped by Dallas Ingram, who had one goal. Ingram scored 1:56 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Thorold. Jesse Pereira assisted on the tally. Josh Micallef also scored for Fort Erie. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Mike Boles, Cameron Fairgrieve, and Aaron Wanat, who each chipped in one.

Vinny Merante made 25 saves for the Blackhawks on 28 shots. Thorold incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Blackhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Joel Forestell was ejected from the game. The Meteors incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
