Machalski leads Cambridge to shutout victory over Stratford

Lucas Machalski recorded a shutout against the Stratford Cullitons as the Cambridge Winter Hawks picked up a 6-0 win.

Cambridge got the win on the strength of a great game by Todd Bannermon, who had two goals and two assists. Bannermon scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:47 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cambridge. The Winter Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Jake Pleon was put in the box for cross checking. Trevor Hache provided the assist. Bannermon's next tally on the power play made the score 6-0 Cambridge with 9:11 left in the third period. Cambridge had taken the advantage when Stratford's Ryan Watson got sent off for interference. Hache assisted on the tally.

The Winter Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Stratford power plays. Cambridge's defense was surprisingly good. The Winter Hawks allow 2.5 goals per game. Cambridge bested its season scoring average. The Winter Hawks average 3.9 goals per game.

Cambridge also got points from Cody Gratton, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Maxime Lamontagne also scored for Cambridge. More assists for Cambridge came via Mitch Klie, who had one and Cameron Pentsa and Brennon Pearce, who contributed two a piece.

The Cullitons could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Stratford averages 3.2 goals per game. The Cullitons' offense rang up 34 shots on Cambridge's net. Stratford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game.

Lucas Machalski made 34 saves for the Winter Hawks on 34 shots. Cambridge incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nick Caldwell rejected 19 shots on goal for the Cullitons.
