St. Marys holds on for 4-2 win against ChathamPyramid Recreation Centre Fri, Oct 19, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Marys Lincolns survived a determined comeback attempt by the Chatham Maroons on the way to a 4-2 win. A goal by Braydon Blight put St. Marys up 4-1 in the second period, but Chatham pulled to within two on Jake Flegel's tally 5:03 into the third period. Reid Oliver was all over the ice for the Lincolns, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Oliver found the back of the net on the power play 15:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 13:16 into the second to make the score 2-1 St. Marys. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:11 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. St. Marys stifled the Maroons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Chatham was unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Lincolns found themselves short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing three power plays. St. Marys got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. St. Marys also got a goal from Jonathan Rizzo as well. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Dean Pawlaczky, who had two and Owen MacDonald, Brandon Lamothe, Sean Consitt, and Kyle Flemington, who each chipped in one. The Maroons forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Chatham had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Maroons were held below their usual level of production. Chatham puts an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. The Maroons were helped by Trevor Richardson, who racked up one goal. Richardson scored 12:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Brayden Hopkins picked up the assist. More assists for Chatham came via Michael Verboom and Brennan Feasey, who contributed one a piece. Craig Wood rejected 22 shots on goal for the Lincolns. St. Marys registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Lincolns, Calvin Penney and Tyson Baker were ejected from the contest. Scott Tricker recorded 33 saves for Chatham. Team's Evan Mascaro and Alexander Morgan were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
