Kitchener rips Cambridge, 6-1

The Cambridge Winter Hawks had trouble finding ways to stop the Kitchener Dutchmen, which beat Winter Hawks, 6-1.

Kitchener was led by goalie Jack Moylan, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. Moylan managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.86 prior to the game.

The Dutchmen forced Cambridge's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. Lucas Machalski made 16 stops and Mitch Figueirdo made 13. Kitchener bested its season scoring average. This season, the Dutchmen average 3.7 goals per contest.

Kitchener was led by Keli Grant, who had two goals and one assist. Grant scored the first of his two goals at 10:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. Keegan Calder picked up the assist. Grant's next tally made the score 6-1 Kitchener with 2:53 left in the third period. The Dutchmen had gotten the advantage when the Winter Hawks' Aaron Duggan was sent off for abuse of officials. John Divo assisted on the tally. Kitchener additionally got points from Philip Moser, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jordan Delaurier, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Ty Learn also scored for Kitchener. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Matt Pappineau, who had two and Matt Guild, Eric Hammerl, and Adam Kawalec, who each chipped in one.

Cambridge could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Winter Hawks average 3.9 goals per game. Cambridge's offense rang up 35 shots on Kitchener's net. The Winter Hawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 34 penalty minutes.

The Dutchmen incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Kitchener, Guild was ejected from the game. Cambridge registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
